Fish breathing quickly

If it remains a mystery, I would try a poly filter for a few days. I keep one on hand for when things just aren't right. They get out just about anything, especially those things which are hard to test for. Most LFS have them.

Well...at least the blenny is still alive and apparently feeling much better. His color is back and though it's hard to see him in both the low light and his hiding places, it looks like he is breathing easier...much easier. I have yet to see my six line...which isn't unusual as he stays in his cave until the lights come on. I've been watching the skimmer to see if anything is out of the ordinary. So far so good...

Have no idea what the issue was but I suspect it had something to do with the powerhead. The thing is brand new. Do I return it to the store? I am very wary of putting it back into my tank. Maybe I didn't wash it well enough...I dunno but I think I want it gone. I may just return the damn thing and be done with it!

I've contacted the great barrier reef store, the place of purchase, and am returning the product in exchange for another powerhead. I have others like this one and they work great! So I think if it is the power heads fault, it was an isolated incident.

Well, I'm glad things are looking better.
I don't know why a little stray electricity would affect them like that but stuff happens.
there are times that I stick my hands in the water with a small cut and I can feel some
leakage current and my fish are just fine. Maybe they've been acclimated to the shock hehe.

Before I left for work today, I found both my six line and blenny active and milling about just fine... I think the sixline's breathing wasn't quite normal yet but obviously improved. The blenny looked as if nothing ever happened and was exploring his caves.

Got the new pump today too...any tips on a new pump? I usually wash new equipment in vinegar and rinse it with fresh water after that... I'm always afraid residue from the manufacturing process will harm my animals, but I could just be overly cautious.

I did a blackout on my tank using towels. What I forgot wad that I turned off my return pump. The next day when I turned my lights back on most of my fish were dead and the ones that weren't were breathing really fast and hard. My clowns seemed unaffected. They really are invincible. Anyways chemicals from epoxy wouldn't make them breathe hard, only o2 deprivation.

Besides now flow, aeration etc, what would cause O2 deprivation? Remember, nothing in my tank showed signs of distress except for these two fish.

Last night they were very busy fish, thankfully....eating a ton of food and being very active so peace has been restored.

Update...the fish are fine. I'm paranoid that I see an increase in gill movement every time the lights come on but I'm sure that's just my insanity coming through, at least that's what the small voice in my head says. Lol

Replaced the powerhead and left it on for a few hours, then off for a but then on again and so on trying to get everyone use to the increase in flow. The maxijets I had worked ok and moved a lot of water but only in a small, jet stream. These hydors move a ton of water but you never feel like its blasting away.

Still figuring out where to position the power head so the corals I have now get what they need and not too much more.

So right now, in my 46 gal tank I have two hydors, one 550 and one 750. I also have my skimmer And a HOB filter I use to run carbon in. Lots of flow, I think, but hopefully not too much.
