Man throws bleach into fish store's tanks

I don't know where to post this, sorry if it's in the wrong forum. I'm just sickened by this and can't understand any motivation for such an act.

A man entered Kavajecz’s store Underwater World on Custer Avenue Thursday afternoon and threw a powder into several salt-water fish tanks.
Shortly after the white man, who was wearing a black beanie, faded red hooded sweatshirt with white lettering, light blue jeans and two different colored shoes, left the store, Kavajecz noticed that his fish, sea horses and other sea creatures were dying. The animals were worth about $8,000.
He suspects the powder was dry chlorine bleach.

Before I read that, I thought the owner might have been Steve from Front Range Aquatics. But it's not, so I feel bad for the fish and the owner.

I was thinking the same thing. Look at this guy's store-- it's beautiful! And if his store looks this great, imagine how great the livestock is etc.

With that said I just don't get people destroying life...beauty etc... what does this criminal gain by doing this? I mean besides enough bad karma to knock you into next year?

That or someone who wants to buy his store front location for a different business.

What would you do if that happened here? Lets say this happened to Elite Reef? Would the community get together and donate corals and fish to help them stay in business?

I'm not sure it would happen to the extent to get the store owner back on his/her feet 100%, but based on the giving nature of this hobby, i would not at all be surprised if you saw people donating time and goods to help someone like this. I don't have much myself but I'd donate zoa frags for sure. I love my zoas and would love to see them keep going even if it were to someone else's benefit.

The real issue is that SW stores can't insure livestock, so even if he does get donated frags, he's still out $800 for the livestock. I know EL has separate grow out tanks, so maybe they can replace most of their frags. But the fish/inverts are a lost cause, unless they get donated fish and inverts also.

How sad, i didn't know you couldn't insure livestock... I know you can't insure it when shipping but had no idea you couldn't insure your business stock.

IN LFSs, are all of the tank connected? meaning, if this guy dumped powder into one tank, would it poison his entire system, or do they have separate systems for each tank? Cuz if you had a grow-out tank(s) I would hope that would at least be a separate system.
