On the assumption that it's the tank won at the raffle...
While it is a valid point that he won that tank, and has the right to do whatever he likes with it, I won't lie and say I was happy to see this listed for sale, and I'm sure the person/company that donated it isn't thrilled about it either. If it was me, I'd be a lot less inclined to donate in the future. Yes, I bought raffle tickets specifically for that tank, and I really wanted to win it so that it could be set up and enjoyed. Not sold on craigslist. As a member, I simply do not look at this club as a source of profit. I don't see the club raffles as a source of deeply discounted merchandise I can sell, nor do I think of members as customers I can make money from. I come here to learn, to get help, to help others, and generally to communicate with others who share the same insane addiction to creating small bits of the ocean in this landlocked state in the middle of the country.
That said, the original post was a bit reactionary. I am glad to see that it has been edited to be less inflammatory. I support the board, I understand that their positions are tough to manage at times, and I appreciate everything they do for the rest of us. It's like herding cats, and there's no way they can make us all happy. I do not for one minute think that any of the BOD is sitting back enjoying this stuff.
For my part, and definitely just for what it's worth, I'd like to see a more coherent message from the board on what their expectations are of the members and prospective members. First we're reminded that giving feedback on vendors is encouraged, so that other members and prospective members can decide who they want to do business with. Not to mention avoid getting scammed. But when someone gives negative feedback, the reaction is sometimes harsh and makes others unwilling to do the same. We are reminded to watch what we say, that we aren't to give input unless we were involved, etc. Then we're told that it's just a hobby, stop being so serious, have fun, get back to the reason we all joined the club and got into the hobby in the first place. (I agree with that 100%, by the way. I'd like to go back to just having fun at this, and spending too much money to keep fish happy.) Then, before I've had time to turn around twice, I'm reminded that outsiders are watching us, and that saying or doing something wrong could cost the club reputation in the national arena. I absolutely agree that we need to act like adults, and treat each other with respect and courtesy, to include phrasing things with more facts and fewer insults and no name-calling. On the flip side, the BOD has a responsibility to the members. If someone is routinely using the tools the club has provided (this forum, meetings, etc) to scam it's members, then the BOD needs to handle them accordingly.
