I can only speak for myself...
I bought a lot of raffle tickets for Don's tank back in August. I had absolutely no need for another tank, and at the time I thought, if I win this, I will likely sell it at a (far) below market price (hopefully to a MASC member). However, the primary reason I bought them was to kick in money for the club's fundraise. In this case, for Don's family, it was a particularly dear cause to me.
I haven't had many opportunities to attend meetings because I have a lot of kids. I really have not needed any supplies or equipment, however I likely would have kicked in raffle ticket buys to support MASC fundraises (and likely would have sold for "profit" whatever I won). I say "profit" with quotes because...the hobby costs significant money...personally I don't see any margin I make on selling anything (no matter its cost to me) as "profitable".
Since now that I understand that many (maybe half?) of the group would view this as insulting, I probably will never buy tickets in a raffle. I don't want to insult the community.
All that said, my bigger concern would be on behalf of MASC's fundraising. If a large percentage of the club is in my shoes (whether that is 1/10th...1/3rd...half...I have no clue)...then I would be afraid that the club's fundraise from raffle draws could substantially decline if this activity is frowned upon. Further, it could be a catch 22 for the vendors...the bigger that MASC fundraises are or become, the more opportunity vendors have to get "hype/word of mouth" marketing by donating something big for a raffle...conversely, if the fundraises are small or start dwindling, they wouldn't get much benefit from participating and likely may do smaller or token donations. As a small business owner, personally I would want to donate product for fundraisers where wide appeal is most possible, and couldn't care less if raffle winners flipped the product I gave to a club as soon as they won...but that's just me, not sayin' that our vendors would feel this way.
Lastly I would just suggest that, if this activity is officially frowned upon, there should be a MASC rule stating that this activity may draw a club ban (or whatever penalty is decided...raffle participation etc). Either it is officially OK or officially not OK, so as to avoid community anger on how one side or the other interprets.
Again, just my own point of view to throw out there...I'm good with whatever community-wide decision is (and also am glad to know it so I don't offend now or in the future)...
