Has anyone changed their house insurance policy to account for fish tank potential problems. Ex. water damage, cost of equipment, etc..?
I checked with my insurer (USAA) to make sure water damage was covered. I would guess that cost of equipment would be a highly specialized insurance policy. Maybe a good business model for some entrepreneur. Reef insurance?

That's a heck of a lot of space to paint! Renting a sprayer? Hard surface floors or carpet?

This hobby has a tony money invested so who knows maybe someone is already in the works for reef insurance HA.

It is a ton of area to paint! We may rent a sprayer this weekend. I am not sure yet. We are doing a mix on the floors. The entry way from outside , under the tank, and bathroom will be vinyl. The rest will be carpet since it is a basement with concrete sub floor

Great progress, it's always fun to watch all your hard work slowly start coming together!

What are you thinking each chamber of your sump will be used for?

That it is! It also feels like it takes forever when you have to attend your "real" job as well.

Honestly I am not fully planned on this front. I have a custom 75 gallon refugium coming with my tank, so I do not need to use that area in the sump for algea. Probably use it for bio media ( bricks/balls/plates) or something like that. May or may not use it for reactors. Haven't decided. Skimmer section will be for skimmer and heaters and probes. Return area will have two return pumps. Sock section will be socks. I may want a grow out area in the future but that is a ways away. I don't think I will put that in the sump though. I like my sump dark to prevent algae/coraline growth in it.

It definitely does, it's the worst once the tank is set in place and you're waiting on plumbing or some part you forgot/didn't realize you needed. Stay strong!

Are you planning to do a show refugium with the 75? What are your plans for it.

Just can't rush anything and will be good!

Yes I am going to do a display fuge. It will be in the fish room though. I have having a divider put into the middle of the tank so one side is cheato and the other is fancy algaes ( which will be trimmed regularly for looks) with pipe fish/ mandarins or for new additions.

Exactly, patience is key in this hobby. I let my old 180 cycle for 3 months before adding any livestock (besides CUC and phytoplankton).

That will be great, I'm going to get some tank cultured seagrass in for my fuge once everything is up and running. If you're thinking seagrass at all let me know and I can get you a few shoots as it grows out.

I think mine will be about the same boat just due to the time to get the entire system set up to the way I want it to be.

Thank you! I appreciate the offer. I will let you know once I spend some time planning out the livestock for the fuge.

Slowly but surely like the tortoise is my motto for keeping reef aquariums. No problem, if you do decide to do seagrass and want a few good articles on keeping them, let me know and I can point you to a few good ones.

This is where the tank will be and what the stand will be sitting on. I was able to get it centered between the bulkheads and on one slab of concrete with the hopes if the basement floor moves that tank will be isolated to one slab and move as a unit and not spanning two slabs with different movement. The vinyl should be help with any spills from the tank and drinks around the bar lip. For all those OCD about things, yes I made all the seams in the same place because the tank will cover them up and you will only see the outer perimeter of the floor and no need to spend time cutting the floor at different lengths to make them "look" better when installed. I did do that everywhere else though. The carpet will take up the rest of the flooring in the basement.
