So while looking at my refugium I was pretty amazed at how quickly the copepod population established itself. Even with a seahorse and a pipe fish grazing on them, there are still swarms of thousands of them in every corner and crevasse in the tank. There was a pretty good swarm of them in one of the front corners so I took a quick little video and snapped some pics.

I just checked hrough your thread. Sweet setup!!!! Definitely jealous of that beast. I still need to come by and grab the DBTC frags and check this bad boy out. That is if you still have them since I never made it by ;) . How did you get such a big pod population? Do you replenish it with new pods?

Thanks for the compliment! You are free to come by and pick up your frags anytime I am home. My colony of ponape birdsnest died in the transitions so I have your DBTC frag in my display right now. However I do still have a piece that is hanging on to life in my 90 if you would want that. The purple deaths are a nice colony of 10-15 now. I think my pod population is mainly from transferring all the rock from my 75G that was established for over 5 years, and I dose live phytoplankton every couple of days.

No worries about the ponape. My next trip to catfish charlies I will swing by and pick the frags up. Hopefully your close by. Can you PM me your # again? Also where do you get the phyto from?

Newest fish addition: Blue Jaw Triggerfish. After reading extensivly about them I felt confident that these are indeed truly reef safe trigger fish. Only a slight chance of preying on small ornimental shrimp, and I have a melanarus wrasse so no small shrimp for me anyway. I was slightly worried about the 2 fire shrimp I have in there, but when I put him in he went in the same hole that they hang out in and wasn't the slight bit interested in them all of yesterday and today.

I love your blue jaw trigger. I have been looking for one? Where did you buy yours?

Are you skimming? I didn't notice you mentioning a skimmer. I was looking at the SPS coral section as saw your pics posted on February 10th, 2012 (yea awhile ago and sure from your 75 gal). I noticed how your polyps are really extended. How do you dose Cal and Alk (2 part, reactor, ??). How often do you change water? and how much?

I under skim. I am running a SWC250 which is rated for around 300-400 gallons. It pulls out a lot of crap, but I feel that it has more value keeping my O2 levels stable and aiding in gas exchange than nutrient export. I rely more on my macro algae for the systems nutrient export. Especially Ulva sea lettuce, the most under rated export algae in my opinion. grows much much faster than any other macro. I would even venture to say that in my systems it grows as fast as the chaeto and caulerpa combined! Tangs and other herbivores love to eat it as well. I currently manually dose 2 part. I was using seachems dry 2 part, but recently switched to bulk reef supply's calcium hydroxide and sodium carbonate since I can get it in huge amounts. It is pretty painstaking right now and I have to admit there is a little bit of "feeling it out" and guess work involved but every time I test which is generally every 2 weeks or so the levels stay pretty close to where I want them( 9DKH, 450calc ). I am in the process of figuring out the exact daily dosage so I can incorporate it into the auto top off system which involves 2 30G tanks with small utility pumps controlled by my reef keeper elite. I have yet to do a water change on this system, but the plan is to do around 100G water change every month just to replace any trace elements that I am not dosing.
