good luck on figuring out what is taking out your fish. You might get a blue flashlight that might not startle them as much when you shine it in.

My guess is Gorilla Crab or another crab hitchhiker or Mantis, I am surprised that your shrimp have not been picked off but they are more active at night than fish, looks like an ambush attack.

Bad news either way

It was the chalk basslet! Everyone spread the word that they are not as passive as most think. I witnessed the chalk take a chunk out of a six line that I put in! Now I need to get him out

The tricky thing about it rocky is that he does his damage when the lights are on the sunrise sunset mode. So early morn and late night. I set up the video cam and taped him being very aggressive.

Nice find, glad you figured out what was causing your damage.
You might take a 16oz pop bottle cut the top off just above the lable, and turn the top around and shove it into the bottle with some food in it, makes a simple trap. that is if he will fit through the neck of the bottle

Sixlines and Mandarins are not a good mix either. I only found that out after I found my Mandarin dead with no eyes. This was a while ago and just today after looking at something completely different online I came upon a thread where people were talking about not mixing Sixlines and Mandarins. Apparently it's common for them to take out their eyes. Creepy!

Great that you found the culprit. I was pretty sure it's the chalk basslet. I didn't see mine eating my fish but I saw him swallow a cleaner shrimp and it was a big one.

lol I found that thread while reading up on aloe vera in fish food. How I even got there I don't know. I'm glad to know it was the sixline to blame and to think I almost bought a new Mandarin last week.
