Got some stuff in the mail today.

Hopefully I'll be able to get everything installed tomorrow. I'll try and take pics of that too.

So, yea. Couldn't wait until tonight to do the upgrades, so I did them last night.

Here's everything laid out on our bed.

The construction of the media and fuge baskets is amazing. Everything is laser cut and looks great. The fit and finish is above what I was expecting, but that's a good thing.

Here is the media basket loaded up with the filter floss on top, then the Purigen and then the Chem-Pure Elite.

Here's how the media basket and fuge basket fit into the middle chamber on the BioCube 29.

Here's the fish saver.

This is a frag of Kenya tree that I got from Kaina, aka Dracx.

Also a few Nassarius Snails that I got the other day.

I also upgraded the stock return pump to the Maxi-Jet 1200. Man does that thing flow a lot more water. Haven't put the submersible light in yet as I need to get some cheato to put in the fuge rack.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looking good, the baskets look like a nice mod. Let me know how well they work.

Was the upgrade to the maxi jet easy? I still have my old pump and it works great, but I have read that the 1200 tons better then the stock.

Ask around I am sure someone here will give you a had full of cheato.

KhensuRa, the upgrade was easy. Pull old one and insert the MJ 1200.

Kalgra, would tonight around 6 or so work for you?

I'm starting to get a lot of algae on the rocks and glass. Also have stuff all I over the sand. What kind of cleanup crew should I get? I'm gonna get a peppermint shrimp as I have a lot of aptasia as well.

I like Ceriths, Collumbellids, Stomatellas, Collonistas, and Nassarius snails.
Collumbellids, Stomatellas, and Collonistas are normally hitchhiker snails.

I added some cleanup crew this morning. Some snails, don't remember which ones, an emerald crab and a peppermint.

Acclimated them all and added. I had just fed the fish, but the six-line wrasse went right after the peppermint. Within minutes, while I was trying to add the other items, the peppermint was dead. Well, that sucks. As I was talking to Elite they gave me a better idea how I should have added the peppermint, but they also said that in a small tank the six-line probably would find him no matter what. While this conversation was going on I was watching the fish and the six-line kept going after the clown. Well, this wasn't going to work. Elite said they would give me a credit just bring him in. Problem was I didn't have a net. Went and bought one. Came home and tried to catch the six-line. Dang they are fast. I ended up having to take all my rock out of the tank, except the piece the bubble was attached to, and kept trying. Still took about 10 minutes. Couldn't imagine trying to catch one of these in a big tank. Took him in and picked up 2 Bangai Cardinals.

Also picked up another peppermint. Unfortunately while acclimating, that peppermint died too. Before I bought the cardinals I had Elite test my water and they said everything looked really good. Called them and they said to bring it in and they'll give me another, though I'm going to try for something else.

That sucks man. My sixline killed my McKoskers, not enough homework on my part, so I know they can be bullies. I'd say wait on the shrimp if you just burned through two. I might have missed it, but what's your proposed fish stocking list?

Not sure what other fish I want. Would really like a Mandarin. Just saw that ORA has some that are tank bred and will eat regular prepared food. Might get a pair of those. I will probably take the clown and the bubble into Elite and get a credit on them, though I'm not sure yet.

The Cardinals are swimming around and seem to be doing well.

The crab is fun to watch too.

I have a spotted mandarin that loves his pods and found out tonight he loves brine shrimp!! I got the spotted since you can usually be successful in feeding them other foods than pods. However, i've always dosed pods for him. Using macro right in the display is a great way I found out to keep pods propagating and gives them some protection from the mandy. Just some food for thought!

Good to know, thanks for the info. Probably gonna be a couple months before I attempt one. Hoping to get things a little more stable and an LED retro kit done before adding the Mandarin.

When and where are you getting your LEDs from?

I'll probably get the kit from RapidLED. They have a dimmable retro kit that fits inside the hood. Though with the heat issue I had yesterday, I'm really considering getting rid of the lid all together. Scared the crap out of me when I woke up yesterday and the tank was at 86. Took fans blowing all day to bring it down to 82.

You can still get heat issues from LEDs, although not as bad, if you overpower them
